Welcome to Urban Asanas. This guide covers the basic things every instructor should know before teaching classes at the studio.

Arrival Time

Please arrive 30–45 minutes before class begins. This gives you enough time to prepare the room, check the schedule, welcome students, and start class calmly and on time.

Before Class

Before students arrive, please:

Turn on lights in the reception area.
Close the curtain between the reception area and practice space.
Set the lighting for the class mood.
Turn on soft instrumental music.
Turn on the reception area TV if needed.
Check the registered student count.
Make sure mats and props are available and laid out if needed.
Turn on heat or fans based on the class type.
Spray air freshener, turn on the candle warmer, and light candles if appropriate.

Greeting Students

Please greet each student warmly when they arrive. Help new students feel comfortable by showing them:

Where to place shoes, coats, and bags.
Where the restroom is.
Where to find mats and props.
Where to set up for class.

If a student is new, briefly check in about injuries, limitations, pregnancy, or anything they want you to know before class.

Class Expectations

Please begin and end class on time. Students should feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Keep cues clear and beginner-friendly, especially when mixed-level students are present.

For heated classes, remind students to hydrate, take breaks, and listen to their bodies. Heat should support the practice, not pressure students to push past their limits.

Props and Studio Supplies

Students may use studio mats, blocks, blankets, bolsters, and straps. Please encourage students to return props neatly after class.

After Class

After class, please:

Thank students for attending.
Check in with anyone who may have questions.
Turn off candles or warmers.
Turn off or adjust heat/fans if needed.
Reset the room.
Put props away neatly.
Pick up any trash, cups, or personal items left behind.
Make sure the practice space feels clean and ready for the next class.

Cleanliness

Please help keep the studio clean and inviting. If mats or props are used, they should be wiped down or placed in the designated area. The room should look just as good after class as it did before students arrived.

Music

Please use clean, class-appropriate music. Music should support the energy of the class without overpowering your voice or distracting students.

Communication

If anything happens during class that I should know about, please communicate it as soon as possible. This includes:

Student injury or illness
Heat/fan issues
Low supplies
Problems with the space
Student complaints or concerns
Anything broken, missing, or unsafe
